Sun Healthcare Tells Strikers to Stay Away Until Contract Is OKd

SAN FRANCISCO — Nursing home workers striking against troubled Sun Healthcare Group facilities have been told not to return to work until a contract agreement is reached, union officials said Saturday.
About 155 employees of SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation Center in Fremont and SunBridge Care Center in Pleasant Hill are striking over a redesigned benefits package, according to the Health Care Workers Union Local 250.
Saturday’s strike became a lockout when the facilities’ parent company, Sun Healthcare Group of Albuquerque, N.M., told the employees they could not return to work until a contract agreement is reached. They have been without a contract since Sept. 1.
The striking workers say a proposed change would cut benefits for new employees.
