* First-time claims for unemployment benefits dropped by an unexpected 13,000 to 274,000 in the week ended Nov. 20, from 287,000 the previous week, the Labor Department said. The figure is the lowest since the week of Sept. 18, when it was also 274,000. Economists were expecting the level to remain at about 287,000.
