HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL NOTEBOOK : Alemany Hires Wooley as Basketball Coach
- Share via
David Wooley, a former Kennedy High basketball player who has served as an assistant coach at Burbank and L.A. City College, has been selected the new boys’ coach at Alemany.
“God, am I excited,” said Wooley, 34, who takes over a program trying to overcome the firing of Darryl McDonald, who was dismissed as coach after the school learned he was a registered sex offender.
“I’m looking to bring closure to what’s happened,” Wooley said. “I understand what [the players] are feeling. I went through four coaches in three years of high school.”
Ron Quarterman, the coach at Burbank, turned down the position. Wooley said it did not bother him to be a second choice.
“I’ve just waited so long,” he said.
Wooley has lived in the San Fernando Valley all his life. He played for the East Valley Trojans growing up and was a guard for Kennedy, graduating in 1983. He will not teach at the school.
