With Valencia’s Manuel White-led offense rolling along for an average 351.4 yards a game, the thinking of Coach Brian Stiman is quite clear: if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Zack Sapp, the Vikings’ starting quarterback before suffering a sprained ankle in the first game, saw limited action on defense in his return last week against Quartz Hill.
Stiman expects Sapp to get significantly more playing time tonight against Burroughs, but at free safety, not quarterback.
That position has been filled to satisfaction by Kyle Bauer, who has completed 23 of 48 passes for 393 yards and four touchdowns.
“It’s been 4 1/2 games and Bauer is doing a very good job,” Stiman said of Bauer. “I can’t find a reason not to [start Bauer over Sapp].”
Sapp, a 5-7, 150-pound senior, will also reassume his kicking responsibilities.
“Sapp is one of the better wide receivers and kickers around,” Stiman said. “I’m just happy as all heck [to have him back] because there is so many things he can do.”
