IPOs in August Raise Double Year-Ago Total

Initial public offerings raised $3.2 billion in August--double the year-ago total--despite the usual summer slowdown for new issues, according to figures released Friday.
Among the best performers: San Jose-based wireless equipment maker Netro (ticker symbol: NTRO), which raised about $40 million and whose shares have risen 270% from the offering price, and Newport Beach-based e-commerce software developer Quest Software (QSFT), which raised about $57 million and whose shares have risen 204%.
Though next week’s IPO calendar looks light, with San Francisco-based online photography marketer BusyBox (BUSYU) among the few deals tentatively on tap, the market is expected to heat up the week of Sept. 13, when 10 deals are slated to be priced. Twenty-one deals are tentatively set for the week of Sept. 20.
