Batcave Set in Old Spruce Goose Dome Burns

LONG BEACH — Batman’s Batcave caught fire Friday on a movie set inside the Long Beach dome, which once housed Howard Hughes’ giant Spruce Goose flying boat, firefighters reported. Four people were slightly injured.
Wayne Chaney, a Long Beach Fire Department spokesman, said the blaze started about 1:30 p.m. as crews for Warner Bros. dismantled the Batcave set used for the next Batman movie. Warner Bros. had leased studio space inside the huge dome.
Chaney said wood and plastic on the set caught fire, producing large amounts of black smoke. He said the fire was small, however, and under control when firefighters arrived.
No damage was reported to the dome, but three people suffered smoke inhalation and a fourth cut his leg. All were treated at the scene, Chaney said.
