Ortiz Goes Six Innings in Rehabilitation Start
- Share via
Rookie pitcher Ramon Ortiz recovered from a shaky start and pitched six solid innings during a rehabilitation assignment for the Lake Elsinore Storm, the team’s Class A affiliate. Ortiz, recovering from partially torn cartilage in his right shoulder, gave up two runs and eight hits and had seven strikeouts and two walks.
He threw 87 pitches, 54 of them strikes. His fastball was clocked in the low 90s in the sixth inning. He said he’s ready to make his Angels’ debut Tuesday at home against Toronto. But Manager Mike Scioscia was more cautious.
“If he can bottle this stuff, he’ll be fine,” Scioscia said. “But we’ll just have to see how he comes out of it. It’s impossible to know whether he’s.”
