Work Begins on Pasadena Office Complex

Koll Development Co. has begun construction on a 176,000-square-foot office complex in Pasadena that will be the city’s first major office building built in the last decade.
The speculative, $36-million Koll Pasadena Center will occupy a block-long stretch of Colorado Boulevard near Lake Avenue. The five-story building and an adjacent four-story parking garage are expected to be completed in February 2001.
The project required the demolition of the Wegge Dodge auto showroom, a Mission-style structure built in the 1920s. Pasadena Heritage and other preservationists had lobbied Koll and the city to incorporate the historic structure into the new complex, but those efforts failed. The showroom had been vacant for many years before being demolished about a year ago.
