Burley’s Ace Highlights Kennedy’s Win

Kennedy’s Matt Burley made a hole-in-one as the Fighting Irish defeated Loara, 193-208, in an Empire League boys’ golf match Monday at Lakewood.
Burley, who finished with a one-over-par 37, aced the 154-yard third hole, using an eight-iron. Peter Whang earned medalist honors with a 36 for Kennedy (8-6, 2-0).
In another nonleague match:
Fountain Valley 373, Orange Lutheran 376--Matt Amen shot a six-under 65 at Mile Square and Willowick for Orange Lutheran (8-5). Amen shot a four-under 32, including birdies on the first four holes, at Mile Square and a two-under 33 at Willowick to earn medalist honors by seven strokes.
In the Pacific Coast League:
No. 6 University 186, Costa Mesa 203--At Rancho San Joaquin, medalist Ryan Miller had two birdies and finished with a two-under 34 for University (11-2, 5-0).
In the Serra League:
No. 1 Servite 203, Mater Dei 220--Nico Bollini shot three-over 39 for Servite (7-1, 3-0) at Los Coyotes.
In Garden Grove League baseball:
Bolsa Grande 10, Santiago 6--Designated hitter Cavan Curran went three for four with two runs batted in to highlight a 10-hit attack for the Matadors (9-8, 3-3). Bolsa Grande had scored nine runs in five league games before Monday, and Santiago pitcher Brian Pilkington had defeated Bolsa Grande the last three times he had faced them, including a game in which he struck out 15 batters last season.
Pacifica 12, Garden Grove 8--Pacifica freshmen Blake Crosby and David Heller hit consecutive home runs in the Mariners’ eight-run fifth inning.
In a nonleague game:
Los Amigos 7, Corona del Mar 4--Raul Rodriguez hit a three-run home run with two out in the top of the seventh to break a 4-4 tie and help Los Amigos (7-7) to the victory.
Rodriguez finished with five RBIs and two stolen bases for the Lobos. Raphael Jesus (2-2) pitched the last 2 2/3 innings to earn the victory.
In nonleague softball:
Northwood 5, Los Amigos 2--Freshman Melissa Ota got the victory in her first start, giving up four hits with five strikeouts for host Northwood (8-2). Teresa Leyden tripled, doubled and singled for Northwood.
