A 27-year-old man was in serious but stable condition at a Ventura hospital Tuesday night after being stabbed several times a day earlier during a gang-related attack near the Government Center, police said.
Rudy Carlos Jimenez was being treated at Ventura County Medical Center, where he was taken about 5 p.m. Monday after being attacked near the intersection of Partridge Drive and Telephone Road, authorities said.
“It was just another senseless act of stupidity,” Ventura Police Sgt. Bob Anderson said Tuesday.
According to police, Jimenez and two friends were riding bicycles in the area when a white minivan pulled up beside them and a passenger got out and attacked Jimenez.
Jimenez was stabbed once or twice in the back as he tried to flee and again after he fell to the ground bleeding, police said.
The attacker and Jimenez and his friends associate with members from two rival Ventura gangs, authorities said. No arrest had been made as of Tuesday night, but authorities said Jimenez was cooperating in the investigation.
