Pierce’s Cassel Shuts Out Canyons

Jack Cassel pitched a four-hitter with seven strikeouts and Pierce College routed Canyons, 9-0, in a Western State Conference Southern Division baseball game Tuesday at Pierce.
Toby Herre doubled, drove in a run and scored two runs for Pierce (17-11, 12-7 in conference play).
The Cougars (16-12, 12-7) had their five-game winning streak snapped.
Ventura 7, Santa Barbara 3--Kurt Probasco went four for four with two doubles for the Pirates (14-14, 7-12) in a WSC Northern Division victory at Ventura.
Glendale 16, Valley 6--The Vaqueros jumped to a 13-4 lead after four innings and coasted to a WSC Southern Division victory at Valley.
Andy Karp, John Manuel, Ryan Stonerock and Mike Roux each had two hits, and Brandon Bell added a three-run home run for Glendale (14-16-1, 9-10).
Bell’s home run highlighted a five-run third inning for the Vaqueros, who added eight runs in the fourth.
SOFTBALL
Canyons 14, Santa Monica 2--Valerie Reyes, Danielle Fidler and Stacey Fields each had two hits for the Cougars in a WSC Southern Division game called after five innings because of the 10-run rule at Santa Moncia.
Stephanie Blaire (17-0) allowed three hits and struck out three for Canyons (32-5, 16-0).
Glendale 8, Citrus 0--Chrissy Paknik was a home run shy of hitting for the cycle for the Vaqueros (14-18, 7-9) in a WSC South Division game called after five innings because of the 10-run rule at Glendale.
