City officials said they were delighted Wednesday with a state grant expected to help speed up plans to lower the railroad in the city.
The city will receive $75 million from a statewide transportation program to help pay for plans to lower local railroad crossings.
The grant is part of the state’s $5.24-billion Traffic Congestion Relief Plan, released this week by Gov. Gray Davis.
Placentia plans to lower the Burlington-Northern Santa Fe railroad tracks from the Orange Freeway to Kellogg Avenue, eliminating 10 crossings at local surface streets.
The project, which officials estimate will cost $300 million, is going through preliminary engineering studies and an environmental certification process.
