Doors to Chili’s Bar and Grill, at 3300 W. Coast Highway, will close for good at 3 p.m. Thursday, said Paul Odanaka, Chili’s area director.
Chili’s is the latest business along Mariner’s Mile--the section of West Coast Highway packed with nautical stores and seafood restaurants--that has been unable to survive. Other recent closures include Autobistro and Windows on the Bay. Autobistro had trouble building a customer base while popular Windows on the Bay struggled after the City Council imposed operational restrictions in response to noise complaints from Lido Isle residents across the bay.
Odanaka said that in this case, Chili’s could not negotiate a lease favorable enough to remain at that location. The restaurant’s 15-year lease just ended with Byco, a Newport Beach property management company. Chili’s restaurant managers are considering other locations within Newport Beach and Costa Mesa.
