Granada Hills Double-Cross Wins

Brian Mintz and Brad Steinberg played at No. 1 doubles for the first time this season and defeated Shaun Flynn and Nick Kogan, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, during Granada Hills High’s 5-2 victory over El Camino Real in a West Valley League tennis match Thursday at Granada Hills.

The Highlanders (11-1, 9-1 in league play) moved in to a first-place tie with the Conquistadores (11-1, 9-1), who beat Granada Hills, 4-3, in a previous meeting.

Mintz and Steinberg played at No. 2 doubles last season, losing in the City Section doubles final.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Moorpark 19, Ventura 5--Freshman left-hander Tyler Johnson (6-2) had nine strikeouts in eight innings and Brian Fatur scored four runs for the Raiders (14-15, 10-9) in a WSC Northern Division victory at Ventura.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

Canyons 11, Glendale 1--Valarie Reyes drove in three runs with a home run and double in a WSC Southern Division game.

Lacy Bregger added three hits for Canyons (33-5, 17-0).

Moorpark 12, Santa Barbara 3--Lauren Casper had four hits and four RBIs for Moorpark (19-14, 11-6) in a WSC Northern Division victory at Santa Barbara.
