Guns at School

Re “This Law Hurts More Than Helps,” Voices, April 15: Do you know how many children are now dead because another child pointed and then fired a gun he/she “knew was unloaded”? Draconian measures are called for in these cases to get the message out to children and young adults that it’s extremely serious and dangerous to bring weapons to schools and that there is zero tolerance for it.
Liad Stockfish’s solution (community service) to the problems of children who bring weapons to school and even point and fire those weapons (evidently terrifying others for fun) shows an ignorance of the dangers of children handling weapons and the effectiveness of community service to make school children aware of those dangers.
