The Lake II homeowners association board of directors has voted to donate $3,436--one dollar for every home in the association--to an environmentalist group working to restore Serrano Creek.
The Serrano Creek conservancy formed last year to organize city, county and federal agencies behind a plan to repair the eroded and polluted waterway’s natural habitat.
The conservancy’s membership has grown to more than 5,000 Lake Forest households along the creek.
Several Lake II homes bordering the creek lost large parts of their backyards during floods a few years ago, association president Dianne Brooks said.
“Looking at the whole big ecological picture, [the donation] was something we felt we should do,” she said.
