LAGUNA BEACH

Local environmentalists are preparing a series of visual displays to present to the California Coastal Commission in June, hoping the agency will modify the Treasure Island resort planned for South Laguna Beach.
Coastkeepers, an Orange County environmental group, will take underwater photographs near the area for presentation to the commission, said Gary Brown, the group’s executive director.
In February, the City Council approved the Treasure Island project.
The Phoenix-based Athens Group seeks to build a 275-room hotel, 17 homes and 14 condominiums on about 30 acres of what was formerly a mobile home park. The site is among the last relatively undeveloped seaside stretches in Laguna Beach.
