Hundreds of Haitians Shipwrecked; 14 Die

A ship carrying nearly 300 Haitian migrants ran aground in the southern Bahamas, and 14 of those aboard died of apparent dehydration, Bahamian and U.S. officials said. The U.S. Coast Guard rushed rescuers to the scene, immediately evacuating 31 people suffering from severe hypothermia, dehydration and kidney failure. Two Coast Guard helicopters from Clearwater, Fla., were continuing the rescue. The boat ran aground Wednesday off Flamingo Cay, about 175 miles southeast of Nassau, the capital, Bahamian officials said.
