Speed limits on portions of two streets will increase by 5 mph, after the City Council approves an ordinance at a Tuesday meeting.
Crown Valley Parkway will increase from 45 to 50 mph from Greenfield Drive to Moulton Parkway. Avila Road will change from 35 to 40 mph from Moulton Parkway to La Paz Road, said Dave Rogers, city traffic engineer.
The Sheriff’s Department asked the city traffic engineers to review speed limits on sections of the roads a few months ago, after judges in the South County Traffic Court threw out speeding tickets, Rogers said.
“Some people claimed those streets were speed traps,” Rogers said. “Judges didn’t have sufficient evidence to argue, so the tickets were thrown out.”
