Laguna Fails to Honor King

* Re Jerry Hicks’ Jan. 13 column, “A Hero of a Man, a Stepchild of a Holiday”:
Thank you for enlightening me on the blatant disregard of the observance of Martin Luther King Day by 22 of the 33 cities in Orange County.
As a resident of Laguna Beach for 12 years and as a female and multiracial citizen of this Earth, I am disappointed and insulted that Laguna Beach does not see fit to observe a holiday honoring King.
He preached that “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” Does this not apply to so many residents of Laguna who have felt discrimination in some form?
This is a town which annually hosts a Gay Pride Festival. How about a little Rainbow Flag waving for King? I hope that Hicks’ column will touch others and that they will pay their respects.
