Fountain Valley Defeats Marina

Christina Skaggs’ two-run double in the sixth inning broke a tie and gave sixth-ranked Fountain Valley a 3-1 victory over third-ranked Marina in Sunset League softball Tuesday.
Going into Tuesday’s game, the Barons (20-7, 6-1) were tied with Marina and Los Alamitos for first place in league.
Skaggs also singled and scored a run in the fifth inning and Natalie King pitched a two-hitter.
The battle for first place in the Sunset League will be decided Thursday, when Fountain Valley hosts Los Alamitos at 3:15 p.m.
In another Sunset League game:
No. 7 Los Alamitos 1, Edison 0--Kim Dillon gave up only a fourth-inning single and Emily Foltz doubled in Darcey Brown from first with two out in the fourth to win it for host Los Alamitos (15-7, 6-1).
In the Academy League:
Capistrano Valley Christian 6, St. Margaret’s 4--Lauren Capriotti pitched a no-hitter, striking out 16, but allowed four unearned runs for Capistrano Valley Christian (15-2, 5-0).
In the Century League:
No. 1 Foothill 3, Canyon 1--Caitlin Lowe hit a two-run double in the fifth inning, and Jamie Dotson had three hits for Foothill.
Erin Slettvet, who had a double, drew a bases-loaded walk in the sixth, giving Canyon (17-11, 4-3) its only run.
The Knights (24-2, 7-0) have won nine consecutive games.
El Modena 3, Villa Park 0 (10)--Jessica Hejna, Lindsay Klein and Ashley VanBoxmeer each had an RBI in the 10th inning for visiting El Modena (17-7-1, 5-2).
Klein (9-0) pitched all 10 innings for the Vanguards.
In the Empire League:
Kennedy 5, Loara 3--Brianna Sabol led off the top of the ninth with a home run, and Michelle Turner later singled to score Jennifer McCard for the Fighting Irish (17-5, 4-3) at Loara. Turner (12-5) struck out seven.
In the Freeway League:
Sonora 9, Buena Park 0--Dawn Ramynke hit a grand slam in the third inning to lead host Sonora (20-6, 6-1). Ramynke finished with six RBIs after a two-run single in the fourth inning.
In the Garden Grove League:
No. 5 Pacifica 11, La Quinta 0 (6, mercy)--Jessica Marical and Kasey Carter combined on a one-hitter and Mallorie Lenn had three hits, scored three runs and drove in two for visiting Pacifica (18-7-1, 9-0).
Los Amigos 17, Bolsa Grande 0 (5, mercy)--Sophomore Kristen Orem struck out 13 of the 15 batters she faced as threw a five-inning perfect game for host Los Amigos (7-12, 3-7).
Nancy Grajeda had three hits, four RBIs and scored two runs for the Lobos.
In the Olympic League:
Orange Lutheran 4, Whittier Christian 0--Tiffany Worthy tripled in three runs in the fourth inning to lead visiting Orange Lutheran (19-5-1, 6-1) to the win. Jessica Edwards struck out 14 and gave up only one hit as she recorded her ninth win of the season for the Lancers.
In the Orange League:
Anaheim 3, Valencia 2--Jessica Lampton pitched a complete-game seven-hitter and Alana Washington had two hits, two stolen bases, scored a run and drove in a run for host Anaheim (11-7, 2-5).
In the Pacific Coast League:
Northwood 7, Corona del Mar 0--Allison Lewis posted her 10th win of the season, allowing two hits and striking out 17 for visiting Northwood (13-2, 7-0). Amanda Ching had three hits and scored two runs for the Timberwolves.
University 3, Costa Mesa 1--Tiffany Waldman pitched a two-hitter and struck out eight for the host Trojans (6-16, 4-3).
