Beach Closures

Excessive bacteria in the water prompted Ventura County officials to post two county beaches with new “no swimming” signs.
Tests show unsafe conditions at two sites at Rincon Beach: at the creek mouth and near the flagpole.
In addition, Hobie Beach and Channel Islands Harbor Beach Park in Oxnard remain closed. Water pollution has been a problem at those beaches since last September.
Swimmers should keep at least 50 yards from each side of the signs to avoid bacteria, advised officials at the Ventura County Environmental Health Division.
Weekly beach testing occurs at 53 locations in Ventura County, and results can be obtained by calling the county’s ocean water quality hotline at 662-6555 or visiting the division’s Web site at www.ventura.org/env_hlth/ocean.htm.
