A 30-year-old transient will be arraigned Monday on charges of raping a Port Hueneme woman, according to the district attorney’s office.
Fernando Perez, 30, is being charged with one count of forcible rape involving a 19-year-old woman, who was found crying on a park bench shortly after midnight Oct. 25, Port Hueneme police said.
The woman had been on the beach with friends earlier in the evening and was acquainted with Perez, but she did not know him well, Police Det. Mike Federico said.
The woman was walking alone on a bike path near Hueneme Road and J Street when the alleged assault occurred, Federico said. Police received calls from people who said they heard a woman yelling and crying.
Perez, who was arrested about three blocks away, was identified by the woman, Federico said.
