Loyola Marymount 87, Vanguard 64--Pablo Machado scored 19 points and Elton Mashack added 15 as the Lions ended a 15-game losing streak at Gersten Pavilion.
Loyola scored more points than they did in any game last season and made Coach Steve Aggers a winner in his debut.
The Lions shot 70.8% from the field in the first half and streaked to a 48-34 lead. Loyola led by no fewer than 17 points in the final 15 minutes.
Vanguard (0-2) was led by Dennis Keane’s 33 points.
Southern Illinois 101, Long Beach State 89--Kent Williams and Joshua Cross each had 19 points as the Salukis cruised to a victory at Carbondale, Ill.
Southern Illinois charged to a 47-33 lead at halftime. Its biggest lead was 21 points in the second half. Long Beach’s Ramel Lloyd led all scorers with 27 points.
Weber State 82, UC Riverside 59--Ivan Gotto scored 18 points to lead the Wildcats past the Highlanders at Ogden, Utah.
Mark Miller had 18 points for Riverside.
