Newport Harbor Wins in Sea View League Cross-Country

Newport Harbor had three runners finish in the top five, as the Sailors won the Sea View League cross-country meet Friday at Irvine Regional Park’s three-mile course.
Chris McMillen finished second in 15 minutes 30 seconds, Jesus Santana finished third in 15:43 and John Peschelt was fifth in 15:56 for the fifth-ranked Sailors (4-0).
Woodbridge freshman Nick Haddan won the five-team meet in 15:21.
In Sea View League girls’ cross-country:
No. 3 Woodbridge wins--Amber Steen finished first (17:44) for No. 7 Newport Harbor but the Sailors finished second to Woodbridge (4-0), which placed three runners in the top five.
Jessica Kanin was the top finisher for the Warriors, running the three-mile course at Irvine Regional Park in 18:19.
In nonleague girls’ tennis:
Calvary Chapel 16, Century 2--Ashley Nelson, Amy Leece and Casey Conrad each swept her singles set for host Calvary Chapel (11-0, 7-0).
In Academy League girls’ volleyball:
Capistrano Valley Christian 3, Fairmont 1--Crystal Hickey had 15 kills and Abby Pierik had 12 for host Capistrano Valley Christian (4-3, 1-0), which won, 13-15, 15-9, 15-10, 15-8.
In the Century League:
Canyon 3, El Modena 0--Kim Mattis had 27 kills and Melissa Sherman had 43 assists to help Canyon rally to a 15-3, 12-15, 8-15, 15-11, 15-7 victory.
Foothill 3, Santa Ana Valley 0--Jen Wells had six kills for Foothill, which won 15-10, 15-7, 15-7. Santa Ana Valley middle blocker Jennie Beltran had 11 blocks and five kills.
Villa Park 3, Orange 1--Crystal Tinoco had 10 kills to help the Spartans to a 15-4, 15-6, 14-16, 15-0 victory.
In the Express League:
Liberty Christian 3, Norwalk Pioneer Baptist 0--Alicia Wilkerson had seven aces for Liberty Christian (7-0, 6-0), which won, 15-5, 15-10, 15-0.
In Golden West League volleyball:
Santa Ana 3, Tustin 0--Junior Codi Bauer had eight kills for visiting Santa Ana (10-2, 3-0), which won, 15-3, 15-0, 15-9. Tustin is 3-4, 0-2.
In nonleague volleyball:
No. 5 Newport Harbor 3, Santa Margarita 2--The Sailors broke a 14-14 tie in the fifth game and prevailed in a three-hour match, 15-6, 7-15, 13-15, 15-12, 16-14. Taylor Govaars had 24 kills for Newport Harbor (3-4).
Shelby Hamm had 70 assists for the host Eagles (2-5).
