Deal of the Week: Canada by Car, Rail
A favorable exchange rate continues to make Canada an especially affordable destination for Americans. Among the many package deals is a six-day journey by car and rail through scenic Alberta and British Columbia provinces that costs $1,299 per person, double occupancy, including air fare. Travelers fly nonstop from Los Angeles to Calgary on Air Canada, pick up a compact rental car at the airport and drive to the Lodge at Kananaskas, just south of Banff National Park, for a two-night stay. Then they drive to Emerald Lake Lodge near Lake Louise for a two-night stay. Driving into Jasper, they drop off the car and take VIA Rail Canada’s overnight train, departing at 3:30 p.m., to Vancouver and then fly back home. The price includes air fare, four nights’ lodging, rental car (insurance is extra) and train fare. The deal, good through Oct. 16, is subject to availability.
