Canadian authorities have arrested a teacher believed to be a member of an Islamic terrorist group involved in the bombing of two U.S. embassies in Africa, the Canadian Security Intelligence Service said.
Mahmoud Jaballah, an Egyptian refugee who taught in a Toronto Muslim school, has been charged with being a member of Al Jihad, an Egyptian-based organization said to be funded by terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden, according to documents filed in the Federal Court of Canada.
Authorities allege that Al Jihad played a critical role in the 1998 bombing of U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, which killed more than 200 people. The group is also suspected in the attack on the U.S. warship Cole last year, which killed 17 sailors in Yemen.
