From Times Staff Reports
Three hundred feet of popular Main Beach is off-limits for swimmers and surfers after a sewage spill Tuesday morning, officials said.
A pump bypass failure caused about 100 gallons to spill on Laguna Avenue near City Hall. The raw sewage flowed into Broadway Creek, which drains onto Main Beach, Orange County Health Care Agency officials said. The shoreline is closed for 150 feet on each side of the creek until at least Friday.
Tuesday’s closure is the 49th time this year that an Orange County beach has been closed because of a sewage spill.
