Judges dropped espionage charges against 14 British and Dutch accused of spying on Greek military bases, instead charging them with misdemeanors. They were ordered freed on bail.
The 12 British and two Dutch have been jailed since Nov. 8, when they attended an aircraft show at a military base in the southern town of Kalamata. The members of the group said they were merely engaged in their hobby of observing and taking notes about aircraft.
The misdemeanor charge of collecting illegal information carries a minimum sentence of one year and a maximum of five.
