An Oscar Mayer Foods plant worker in Madison was killed when he was exposed to toxic gas that leaked from a ruptured cooler tank.
Tim R. Hubacher, 44, of Waterloo, died Sunday after exposure to ammonia fumes, coroner Kurt Karbusicky said.
Another worker, Tom McMillan, 49, was treated at a hospital, but no information on his condition was released.
The men were moving a tank of ammonia on a loading dock when a line broke, spilling 50 gallons of ammonia, said fire department spokeswoman Bernadette Galvez.
Ammonia becomes a deadly gas when exposed to the air.
