Kilpatrick 80, Pasadena Marshall 65--Keilon Fortune scored 24 of his 33 points in the second half at Muir High and the Mustangs (20-1, 6-0 in league play) clinched a share of their first league basketball title and the school’s second title in any sport.
Kilpatrick, ranked fourth in Division V-AA, can clinch the Alpha League title by winning one of its final two games against Village Christian or Paraclete. The school’s other league title was in baseball in 1998.
“I’ll take whatever responsibility comes in order for us to win,” said Fortune, who leads the region at 35 points a game. “[Saturday] I was looking to get my teammates more involved in the first half because they were doing a good job finishing.”
Fortune, a 6-foot senior guard, had eight assists and five steals.
Center Adam Townsend had 14 points and 17 rebounds for Kilpatrick, which won its 19th consecutive game. The Mustangs’ only loss was to Agoura in the second round of the Montclair Prep tournament.
Marshall (13-6, 5-2) has won five consecutive league titles and had its 26-game league winning streak snapped by Kilpatrick, 86-78, in overtime earlier this season.
