While Raising Roof, Villepigue Lifts His Shooting Percentage

It’s not easy to raise your shooting percentage when you’re hitting 69.4% of your shots, but Dustin Villepigue of Simi Valley High did so Wednesday with a 16-for-20, 41-point effort in a 73-65 victory over Thousand Oaks.
Villepigue, a 6-foot-9 center who is averaging 23.9 points, has made 70% (268 of 383) of his shots.

Jered Weaver of Simi Valley needed 10 stitches to close a cut in his chin he sustained against Thousand Oaks, but he’s expected to play in the Pioneers’ regular-season finale against visiting Royal tonight.
Weaver, Simi Valley’s second-leading scorer at 13.6, hit the floor hard after being fouled by Ben Olson with 2:59 left in the third quarter.
He stayed face down for two or three minutes before leaving the court under his own power. He did not return.

Moorpark (14-11, 5-7) will finish fifth in the Marmonte League boys’ standings, no matter the outcome of tonight’s regular-season finales. But it would be erroneous to assume that the Musketeers were not competitive with the league’s top teams.
Moorpark split two games with Agoura, which is tied for first place with Thousand Oaks. The Musketeers lost to Thousand Oaks by four and seven points.
In addition, they lost two overtime games to third-place Westlake--including an 81-75 double-overtime thriller on Wednesday--and dropped a 63-62 decision to fourth-place Simi Valley.
