6 Injured in 5-Vehicle Collision in Oxnard

OXNARD — A 9-year-old girl and five others were injured in a five-vehicle collision in front of a hospital Saturday afternoon, authorities said.
The crash occurred about 4:30 p.m. in the 1600 block of Rose Avenue at St. John’s Regional Medical Center, according to the Oxnard Police Department.
Details were sketchy late Saturday. Authorities said the collision closed Rose Avenue for several hours as traffic investigators worked to sort out the cause.
The girl and her mother, who were traveling in a car with a third person, were both trapped in the wreckage and had to be freed by firefighters, said Oxnard Fire Capt. Ray Shaw.
The girl suffered a broken leg and chest injuries and was in critical condition at St. John’s, authorities said. A nurse and a respiratory therapist ran out to the scene to assist firefighters, Shaw said.
The other victims had minor to moderate injuries, authorities said.
