Ruiz Breaks Away and Helps Burbank Put Away Pasadena

Jeffrey Ruiz scored on a breakaway in the 79th minute to lift Burbank High to a 4-3 victory over Pasadena in a Southern Section Division III wild-card boys’ soccer game Wednesday at Pasadena.
Edward Navarro scored two minutes into the game for the Bulldogs (13-6-2), who squandered three one-goal leads.
Whalid Kherbache scored in the 30th minute on an assist from Navarro to give Burbank a 2-1 halftime lead.
Eric Lopez scored 20 minutes into the second half to give Burbank a 3-2 lead, but Pasadena (12-7-3) tied the score for the third time less than three minutes later.
In other boys’ games:
Baldwin Park 7, Crescenta Valley 6--The Falcons were eliminated in a Division II wild-card game at Baldwin Park.
Lakewood 3, Highland 0--The Bulldogs were eliminated in a Division I wild-card game at Lakewood.
GIRLS
Canyon 4, Santa Fe 0--Deena Plach scored the first two goals in a Division II wild-card game at Canyon.
Lyndsay Taylor notched her 14th shutout and Nicole Norris and Laura Brown each scored in the second half for Canyon (20-2-5).
Calabasas 9, La Puente 0--Katie Auerbach scored four goals, one on a penalty kick, in a Division III wild-card game at Calabasas (13-9-1).
Auerbach leads the Coyotes in scoring with 27 goals this season.
Erin Fitzpatrick, Marissa Kagan, Mandy Marutzky, Lana Fogel and Alana Rosu added goals for Calabasas, which led, 4-0, at halftime.
Agoura 1, San Marcos 0--Heather Sims headed in a corner kick from Mollie Taylor in the 35th minute of a Division III wild-card game at Agoura.
Cayse Hynes made seven saves for her second consecutive shutout.
St. Bonaventure 2, Lompoc Cabrillo 1--Julie Davis scored 2 1/2 minutes into the game and Melissa Mastright headed in the game-winner in the 60th minute for the Seraphs (5-9-3) in a Division IV wild-card game at Cabrillo.
