Santa Ana Goes Unbeaten in Baseball Tournament

Freshman Ivan Ramirez pitched a no-hitter through seven innings Sunday to lead Santa Ana to a 9-1 victory over Bakersfield in the final game of the Casey Stengel baseball invitational at Saddleback College.
Justin Gerlach hit a two-run homer in the second inning to give the Dons (8-2) a 3-0 lead. Santa Ana finished the tournament undefeated in four games.
Bakersfield (5-3), which was held to two hits, scored in the eighth inning.
In the Cypress Coast baseball tournament:
Orange Coast 7, College of the Sequoias 6--The Pirates (10-1) capped a comeback from a 6-1 deficit with Scott Beerer’s one-out single in the top of the 10th inning, which scored Glenn Hedgpeth.
Hedgpeth, the winning pitcher, led off the inning with a double and moved to third base on a bunt single by Jake Garcia. Jonathan Smith hit a solo home run for Orange Coast in the seventh inning to start the comeback.
Golden West 12, Southwestern 11--Golden West held off a late rally by Southwestern after leading, 12-7, in the eighth inning.
Sean O’Leary earned his fourth save of the season after allowing two runs in the final inning. Chris Hanson drove in four runs for Golden West (7-5), including a three-run homer in the fourth inning to give the Rustlers a 6-5 lead.
In nonconference college baseball:
Albertson (Idaho) 10, Concordia 1: A six-run seventh inning by Albertson College, the NAIA’s third-ranked team, was more than enough to take care of Concordia.
The Eagles got their lone run on an RBI single from Hank Lobel.
In Big West Conference women’s basketball:
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 85, Cal State Fullerton 52--Allison Parks scored 20 points for the visiting Titans (1-22, 1-9), who committed 36 turnovers and trailed, 49-22, at halftime. Cal Poly (10-13, 4-6) had three players score in double figures, led by Kristy Baker’s 12.
In college tennis:
UCI wins--UC Irvine won five singles matches and defeated Air Force, 5-2, in nonconference men’s tennis at UCI.
Jonathan Endrikat improved to 6-0 this season with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Doug Fike in singles. Oliver Schweizer improved to 4-2, defeating Eric Pittman, 6-4, 6-2. David Matthew, Chris Ma and Greg Bjorkman also won in singles.
UC Irvine is 5-1 this season.
