Skull Identified as Man Missing Almost 2 Years

A skull found last week in a canyon several hundred feet below Grimes Canyon Road has been identified as Erich George von Gaertner, 53, a Simi Valley man who was reported missing nearly two years ago, authorities said Saturday.
Von Gaertner disappeared Sept. 22, 1999, and his pickup truck was found three months later in the same canyon between Moorpark and Fillmore, said James Baroni, a Ventura County senior deputy coroner.
