A toddler drowned in a backyard pool Friday after being left unattended for about 40 minutes, firefighters said.
Hector Guerrero, who was almost 3, was pronounced dead at Doctors Hospital Medical Center in Montclair just after 2:50 p.m.
“We don’t know how long he was in the pool,” Fire Capt. Michael Harden said. “But his parents hadn’t seen him in 35 to 40 minutes.”
Firefighters arrived at the home in the 4700 block of Fauna Street to find a police officer giving the child CPR, Harden said.
