* Purse: $2.4 million. Winner’s share: $430,000.
* TV: ESPN (today-Friday, 9 a.m.-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m.) and Ch. 4 (Saturday-Sunday, noon-3 p.m.).
* Last year: Hale Irwin won for the second time in three years, beating Bruce Fleisher by three strokes at Saucon Valley. Irwin had a 17-under-par 267 total, the lowest score in any USGA championship.
* Last week: Larry Nelson successfully defended his FleetBoston Classic title, beating Fleisher by three strokes.

Greater Hartford Open
* Site: Cromwell, Conn.
* Schedule: Today-Sunday.
* Course: TPC at River Highlands (6,820 yards, par 70).
* Purse: $3.1 million. Winner’s share: $558,000.
* TV: ESPN (today-Friday, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.) and Ch. 7 (Saturday, 1-3 p.m.; Sunday, noon-3 p.m.).
* Last year: Notah Begay III won his second consecutive start, closing with a 25-foot birdie putt for a one-stroke victory over Mark Calcavecchia. Begay had a TPC-record 20-under 260 total. He will not play this week because of a nagging back injury.
* Last week: Sergio Garcia won the Buick Classic for his second victory in five weeks, beating Scott Hoch by three strokes in a Monday finish. The 21-year-old Spaniard tied the tournament record with a 16-under 268 total.

ShopRite LPGA Classic
* Site: Absecon, N.J.
* Schedule: Friday-Sunday.
* Course: Marriott Seaview Resort, Bay Course (6,051 yards, par 71).
* Purse: $1.2 million. Winner’s share: $180,000.
* TV: The Golf Channel (Friday, noon-3 p.m. and 5-7; Saturday, 1:30-4:30 p.m. and 5-7; Sunday, noon-3 p.m. and 5-7).
* Last year: Scotland’s Janice Moodie won her first LPGA Tour title, beating Pat Hurst and Grace Park by two strokes.
* Last week: Karrie Webb became the youngest woman to complete the career Grand Slam, holding off Laura Diaz by two strokes in the LPGA Championship. The 26-year-old Australian is the fifth player to win the LPGA’s four majors.
