The Energy Mess and Disappointment

So PG&E; Chairman Robert D. Glynn is “disappointed that this California energy mess continues to have such a negative impact on our reported financial results” [“PG&E; Takes $1.1-Billion Write-Off”, May 3].
Well, Mr. Glynn, I’m disappointed too. Disappointed that I, and millions of other California energy consumers, will have to bail out the energy companies in this state to the tune of billions of dollars, thanks to your miscalculations.
Disappointed that our state legislators didn’t do their jobs and properly analyze the deregulation bill put together by you and the other energy providers in California (remember them at election time).
Disappointed that the state surplus of $10 billion has evaporated in an attempt to keep energy flowing to California, money that I seriously doubt will be recouped despite Gov. Davis’ protestations to the contrary.
Disappointed that you won’t suffer along with the rest of us when the blackouts begin this summer.
You don’t think that PG&E; should be “responsible for the high wholesale costs?” You set the stage; you wrote the script. You should be responsible for the result. Fortunately for you, you can write the losses off. Unfortunately for the rest of us, we can’t.
