Second-ranked USC won the Pac-10 baseball title outright by defeating Oregon State, 1-0, at Corvallis, Ore., in the final game of the regular season.
USC (39-18), which finished 18-6 in conference play, will be one of eight seeded teams when the 64-team Division I playoff bracket is announced today. The Trojans will host a four-team double-elimination regional starting Friday.
Pepperdine (41-16) defeated Gonzaga, 8-5, to win the West Coast Conference championship series at Malibu. The Waves earned an automatic playoff berth.
Chapman defeated Cal State Hayward, 6-3, to advance to the Division III championships starting Friday at Appleton, Wis.
Second-seeded UCLA eliminated Washington, 4-1, and No. 7 Southern Methodist beat Mississippi State, 4-2, to advance to the quarterfinals of the men’s NCAA tennis championships at Athens, Ga.
Stanford’s top-seeded women advanced to its 15th NCAA tennis final, beating fourth-seeded Florida at Stone Mountain, Ga., to set up a showdown with No. 6 Vanderbilt, a surprise winner over defending champion Georgia.
Allison Comito’s goal with eight seconds left in the second overtime lifted top-ranked Maryland to a 14-13 victory over Georgetown in the NCAA Division I women’s lacrosse final at Baltimore.
It was the Terrapins’ record seventh consecutive lacrosse title.
