Wildfires Persist in Drought-Stricken State

Scores of wildfires were blazing across drought-stricken Florida, officials said, and Gov. Jeb Bush said he was praying for rain.
Now in its fourth year of drought, Florida is anxiously hoping for the rainy season in the coming weeks to quell fires that this year have blackened more than 200,000 acres of land and destroyed nearly 50 homes.
State fire officials in Collier County said the biggest blaze, which claimed 25,000 acres in the Big Cypress National Preserve west of Miami, was 90% contained.
