Wal-Mart, Dell Among Firms to Post Earnings

The third-quarter earnings season--the most dismal in a decade with a 20% decline in profits--is drawing to an end.
Still, this week’s earnings reports will be from heavyweight retailers Wal-Mart Stores and Home Depot on Tuesday, and marquee tech names such as computer chip equipment maker Applied Materials on Wednesday and computer builders Dell Computer and Hewlett-Packard on Thursday.
Other companies reporting profits this week are communications networks company Global Crossing Tuesday, generic drug maker Watson Pharmaceuticals Tuesday and retailer Gap on Thursday.
