Bassett Furniture Industries Inc. said it will close a Los Angeles upholstery plant and eliminate 200 jobs, or 6% of its workers, to cut costs. The Bassett, Va.-based furniture maker said it will move production to more efficient plants in Newton and Hiddenite, N.C.* BNC Mortgage Inc. will move its Irvine headquarters to another office building in one of the largest leases this year in the commercial district near John Wayne Airport. The residential mortgage lender rented 63,000 square feet from Koll Development Co. at 1901 Main St. in a six-year deal valued at about $10 million, Koll said. BNC will move in December. The eight-story office building at Main Street and MacArthur Boulevard opened in 2001 and now is 94% leased.
