National Semi Posts Profit as Sales Rise

National Semiconductor Corp. had a fiscal second-quarter profit of $6.2 million as sales rose, marking its third consecutive profitable quarter, and said sales in the current period would be the same at best.

Net income was 3 cents a share, contrasted with a loss of $46.6 million, or 26 cents, in the year-earlier period. the company said. Sales rose 15% to $422.3 million.

Sales in the current third quarter ending in February will be the same to 5% less than in the second quarter, the company said, citing typically lower sales after the year-end holidays.

Shares of the Santa Clara, Calif.-based company fell 2 cents to $17.63 on the NYSE.
