Continue to Fund Destruction of Arms

The Times got it exactly right in its Dec. 3 editorial, “Stockpiles of Terror.” The U.S. cannot afford to ignore the unattended piles of Russian nuclear and chemical arms left over from the Cold War. I was disappointed to see that one of California’s own representatives, Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Alpine), is proposing a policy that would increase America’s insecurity.
Hunter must be made to realize that a foreign policy that would truly make Americans safer includes disarming and reducing worldwide stockpiles of nuclear weapons. I trust that his California colleagues on the Armed Services Committee, including Reps. Loretta Sanchez (D-Garden Grove) and Susan Davis (D-San Diego), will work to show him the error of his ways.
