Oaxaca Says No to McDonald’s in Plaza

After a fierce campaign by artists and local protesters against McDonald’s, Oaxaca’s City Council turned down the fast-food company’s request to open a restaurant in the colonial city’s main plaza.
“A McDonald’s already exists in a modern shopping center, where it doesn’t interfere with the cultural identity of the city,” a city spokesman said. “They can open another restaurant in another street.”
