Malaysia announced plans to deport 30,000 mainly Philippine and Indonesian illegal immigrants from the eastern state of Sabah as part of a crackdown on foreign labor.
Deputy Home Minister Chor Chee Heung was quoted by the official Bernama news agency as saying that the government would soon launch an integrated operation involving police and the military to round up immigrants who are believed to be staying in several settlements in the interior areas of the state.
They will be deported as soon as possible, he said.
