Young Reelected to Head L.A. Unified Board

Caprice Young was reelected Tuesday to the presidency of the Los Angeles Board of Education, a post she has held for a year. The 4-2 vote, with one abstention, shows the board is divided in advance of a campaign for a $3.3-billion construction bond measure and labor negotiations this fall.
Marlene Canter, David Tokofsky and Jose Huizar backed Young for the presidency--the same group that voted for her one year ago. Opposing were Julie Korenstein and Genethia Hudley-Hayes, who lobbied other board members to regain the presidency she held before Young. Mike Lansing abstained.
