Lyle Lovett weathered some emotional lumps during his short-lived marriage to Julia Roberts, which may have helped him rebound from the physical ones he got in March after being trampled by a bull on his uncle’s farm in suburban Houston. Bruises physical or emotional are what Lovett deals with most astutely in his consistently wry and insightful country-soul music.

Africa and the New World have been tossing rhythms back and forth for centuries, and the beat goes on at the Hollywood Bowl in “African Heart/Latin Soul,” part of this summer’s World Music Series. Hugh Masekela’s soulful trumpet provides the African heart, with pianist Eddie Palmieri adding the soul via a Nuyorican blend of jazz, pop and salsa. Ozomatli varies the menu with its eclectic Latin rhythms, and Yerba Buena tops off the evening with a set of simmering Afro-beat Cuban pop.

It’s been nearly a decade since we last got an album from the Breeders. During that time, the celebrated alt-rock band fronted by former Pixies bassist Kim Deal and her twin sister, Kelley, has dealt with a succession of personnel changes as well as Kelley’s time in drug rehab. The band acknowledges the effect of the various setbacks in the title of its oft-postponed new album, “Title TK,” journalistic shorthand for “title to come.”

Kenneth Lonergan’s “The Waverly Gallery,” starring Eve Roberts and David Groh, examines the life of an aging, free-spirited art gallery owner in Greenwich Village who finds herself forced to rely more and more on her family. The play, from the writer-director of 2000’s Sundance Film Festival prizewinner “You Can Count on Me,” was a hit in its off-Broadway run.
