Police Arrest Suspected Algerian Islamic Militant

German police arrested a suspected member of an Algerian militant group thought to have links to Osama bin Laden’s Al Qaeda network, state prosecutors said.
The 57-year-old man, an alleged member of the Armed Islamic Group, is thought to have been involved in an attempt to kill the leader of a Paris mosque, prosecutors in Stuttgart said.
He had been sentenced in absentia to five years’ imprisonment by a Paris court in March, charged with membership in an extremist group that was planning a terrorist attack, prosecutors said.
They said an international arrest warrant had been issued in recent weeks.
